10 Reasons Why Your Business Name Absolutely Matters

Naming a business can be so hard that entrepreneurs, bloggers and business owners simply give up and go for any old dull name. Before you do that, let me convince you as to why the business name or company name you choose ABSOLUTELY matters!

There are so many reasons why you should choose a business name that is a creative masterpiece. 10 of my favourite reasons are below – all of which relate back to your brand experience and brand positioning – how do you want to make people feel? How do you want your dream customer to view you? How can you differentiate yourself?

You have the power to make people curious and click through.
You can either be remembered or forgotten.
  3. HEART
You have the opportunity to display the heart of your brand.
  4. SPEED
Sometimes all someone has is a few seconds to remember you.
  5. SMILE
You have the opportunity to make people smile.
You have the power to help someone choose you over your competitor.
Your business name is the beginning of your brand story.
You have the power to make people feel something.
If it’s interesting you’ll be asked about it = ripper promo opportunity.
  10. TRUST
Often as your customer’s first interaction your brand, your business name needs to begin to build trust.

I love this! I struggle with my name a little because its hard to say and spell, but I love its uniqueness and the definition sums up what we are all about! I love number 9 I never thought of that. Kate x

I love having a business name. Using your personal name can cause all sorts of issues – very hard to sell the business if it is your name, people are not to open when you take on staff or try to step back from the business, spelling of some names can be difficult, and most people forget peoples names however a business name that is easy to remember and fun is easy 🙂

I agree with you in general – I love business names over personal names – but it really does depend on your future plans for the business, so much to consider when naming a business! Thanks for chiming in Sam 🙂

Great points Leah! I met a woman recently who has a blog about simplifying life her name is Polly and her blog name is Polyunsaturated – I will never forget that blog name!

Excellent list, thanks Leah. I love that there’s nothing in there about “telling people what you do”, “using a relevant keyword”, or “being descriptive”. Just right-brained stuff with emotional pull – just as it should be!
